The E3 code is a safety feature.

It appears when the unit’s running temperature is higher than the programmed temperature to prevent any food from burning or the overheating of the unit. When the E3 code appears on your screen, try to cool the unit by turning it off and unplugging as well as removing the cooking pot.

The E3 code can be triggered if the following situations occur:

  • The unit does not have enough cooking liquid inside. Make sure there is enough water, stock, or other cooking liquid in the cooker.
  • The bottom of the cooking pot and the surface of the heating plate are not properly meeting. Sometimes, there can be food residue on the bottom of the cooking pot that prevents it from making a proper connection to the heating plate inside the body of the unit. Wipe away any residue with a damp cloth or paper towel and dry completely before proceeding.
  • When the regulator knob on the lid is turned to the “Steam” release position while pressure cooking. If the regulator knob is not on the “Pressure” position when pressure cooking, the unit will keep heating up until the cooking liquid boils out. This can result in the overheating of the cooker.
  • The floating mini gasket that holds the floating valve in place has come out. The floating valve is what seals the pressure system. With a compromised floating valve, the unit will not properly accumulate pressure and will keep heating up until the cooking liquid boils out.
  • The floating valve is getting stuck. If the floating valve in the lid gets stuck, it will not properly accumulate pressure and that can cause the unit to keep heating up until the cooking liquid to boil out.

You can retest the unit with about 2-3 cups of water after it has cooled off.
